The Mission

Teacher’s Pet Nat is wine education for everyone. It is rooted in justice for all, and endeavors to create an inclusive wine community. My approach to wine education integrates the science, culture, and appreciation of wine. Teacher’s Pet Nat attempts to expand our understanding about the connections between people, place and passion.

Our Goals:

  • Create community that thoughtfully educates and discusses all things wine.

  • Empower “nerds and newbies” to feel comfortable with their knowledge, whatever level that may be.

  • Offer consulting services for restaurants, bars, and tasting rooms.

Meet the Teacher

Kylie Britt, both teacher and teacher’s pet, is an educator at heart, and dreams of sharing and empowering others with her experience and knowledge.

Kylie attended undergrad at the University of Richmond, where she studied Chemistry, History, and Women, Gender, & Sexuality studies. After college, she jumped into a chemistry PhD program, and quickly realized that she needed something more than lab work to feel fulfilled. A retail job at Wine Authorities in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina offered a new insight into wines worldwide and a new language for discussing wine. Capitalizing on her love of Virginia wineries, Kylie joined the lab at Michael Shaps Wineworks in Charlottesville, where she dove headfirst into production and learned to appreciate wine in new ways.

At The Wool Factory in Charlottesville, Kylie works as the Wine Director, where she organizes retail services, curriculum for staff, and does bottle service at the restaurant, Broadcloth.

For Fall 2022, Kylie is headed to the Finger Lakes in New York, to act as Harvest Intern at Red Tail Ridge Winery. She hopes to explore a career as a winemaker, and stay connected to her retail and community roots.

Teacher’s Pet Nat arose as an outlet for Kylie to share with friends and community about her new experiences in the wine world. Now, it takes on a new look as a resource for education.
